Dear Cushman Family and Friends,

In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the Cushman Community is coming together in an effort to help those affected by this disaster. Even though the earthquake occurred over 700 miles away from Miami, FL, its effects are certainly being felt here within our own Cushman community and neighborhood. A number of Cushman employees and families have loved ones in Haiti and are worried about their well-being. As reports from the region come in and we receive more information on how to help, we want to make sure we are ready to assist. Currently, Mrs. Williams and Ms. Kagan are working with the students to organize an effort to gather monetary donations through activities such as an Elementary and Primary School dress down day on Wednesday, January 20th, and to collect items such as bagged rice, bottled water, blankets, and diapers. Items may be dropped off beginning Friday, January 15th at the main entrance of the school on Laura Cushman Circle. Mrs. Cecilia Diaz-Granados (Daniel and Cristian Mariutto’s mother) has kindly offered to help to transport the items to a collection location in Little Haiti on a daily basis. In addition, we have members of three former Cushman families (Dr. Ragheb, Dr. Fournier and Dr. Green) who are in Haiti along with a number of other doctors from UM.
