What are the school divisions?
Primary School encompasses students from three years old through the first grade. Elementary School includes second through sixth grades. Middle School is comprised of seventh and eighth graders. The Laura Cushman Academy serves students from three years old through the eighth grade.
What time does school start?
The Primary School starts at 8:30a.m., Elementary School starts at 8:15a.m., Middle School starts at 8:00a.m.
When does school end?
The Primary and Elementary School end at 3:00p.m. Middle School ends at 3:15p.m. except on Tuesday when dismissal is at 3:00p.m. All students are allowed to play on the playground until 4:00p.m. at no additional charge because we believe that free play time is important to the health and development of children. From 4:00p.m. to 6:00p.m., the YMCA runs an amazing after program for $10/day.
Is there a bus system?
No, parents are responsible for transporting their children. Many parents carpool and other parents use private services (e.g. Brickell Kids)
Is there a cafeteria?
No, we have found that in schools with cafeterias, the cafeteria drives the schedule. Students can either bring lunch from home or take advantage of our two contracted food service companies. The CSPA offers pizza lunch on Fridays. Middle School students can take part in daily catered lunch for purchase options.

Does your school play sports?
Yes. The Cushman School Athletic Department is part of the South Florida Middle School Conference and competes against other private and public middle schools. Over 85% of our 5th - 8th grade students participate on a sports team.
