Laura Cushman Academy Admissions

Students applying for grades K through 8th grade admission to The Laura Cushman Academy must provide a full psycho-educational or neuropsychological evaluation completed in the past two years.  Students entering the Primary School program (pre-kindergarten) must have documentation from a professional, such as a speech/language pathologist, occupational therapist or psychologist that states that a special learning environment or clinical placement is best suited for the indicated child. A comprehensive application must be completed. Each student will be evaluated by the admission team prior to admission. A non-refundable fee of $350.00 will be charged regardless of grade level for the evaluation and admissions process and does not guarantee admission. Part of the evaluation process includes the student spending a day at The Laura Cushman Academy to determine if placement is appropriate.

Students who attend the LCA fall in the DSM-TR classification for specifically learning disordered children. Students have average to above average intelligence and are able to engage and interact with minimal supervision. The students who attend The Laura Cushman Academy thrive in the individualized, multi-sensory setting, but do not require one-on-one attention at all times. The students we serve have the potential, with appropriate remediation, to achieve academically and to function independently in less structured settings. The school does not accept students with significant emotional or behavioral issues. The students have parents/guardians who are committed to and support the practices and philosophy of the school. The Laura Cushman Academy does not serve the needs of multi-handicapped children.

 All records from previous schools and reports must accompany the application or be sent to the school as part of the admissions process.   Once all the appropriate forms and reports have been provided a complete assessment with the admissions team will be scheduled.
