5th Grade Trip to Seacamp
This morning, Wednesday, February 17th, the fifth graders boarded a bus and set off on their wonderful adventure to the Newfound Harbor Marine Institute (Seacamp.) The event lead parents and teachers to describe the wonderful memories of their own first overnight school trips. Today the fifth graders will stop at a park in the Keys to have lunch then drive on to Seacamp on Big Pine Key. Once there, they will get checked in, have swim evaluations, and rent their snorkels and wetsuits. The first program will be on shark ecology, then dinner and journal writing, and finishing up the day with a night wade and off to bed. In the morning, after breakfast, there will be two boat trips to the mangrove islands with lunch in between. After dinner, there will be a campfire and astronomy lesson and then to bed. Friday, everyone will get up, pack, clean the cabins, and eat breakfast. The last program of the trip will be on squid anatomy. The bus will leave at noon, drive to Bahia Honda Park for lunch and then return to Cushman around 4:00 pm.

H1N1 Vaccine The Cushman School again will be offering the H1N1 vaccine here on Thursday, February 25, 2010. The vaccine will be admin-istered by health officials from the Florida Department of Health. The vaccine is being offered free of charge to all students, their families, their friends, all faculty and staff. If you would like your child to receive this vaccine, you must complete a consent form prior to vaccine ad-ministration; this consent form can be obtained from the main office. Please contact Lorraine Nowakowski if you are interested in receiving this vaccine. Children who received the first dose of the vaccine here at Cushman will receive a personal note to schedule the second dose. Thank you. |
ONE CALL NOW TELEPHONE CALLING SYSTEM The Cushman School will be using our automated calling system, One Call Now, to occasionally send out phone call messages to all our families. The phone call will start out with a message from Dr. Lutton, up to a 10 second delay, and then the im-portant message. It is important NOT to hang up before hearing the important message or the sys-tem will continue to call your phone back until you listen to the message. |
News from the Nurse
CLEAN HANDS-
HANDWASHING SAVES THE DAY!
Did you know:
- that some viruses and bacteria can live up to 2 hours or more on surfaces such as desks, tables and door-knobs?
- that nearly 22 million school days are lost annually due to the common cold alone?
- that nearly one third of people do not wash their hands after they use the bathroom?<
Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. It is best to wash your hands with soap and water and clean running water. It is important to remember to wash your thumbs too! The length of time to wash you hands is the same amount of time it takes you to sing “Happy Birthday”!
When you should wash your hands:
- Before preparing or eating food
- After going to the bathroom
- Before and after tending to someone who is sick
- After blowing your nose, sneezing or coughing
- After handling garbage
By not washing our hands regularly, we may be causing our own poor health and spreading germs to others.
Prevention is the best intervention.
