The Performing Arts
The Performing Arts is one of the cores of our curriculum at The Cushman School. Beginning in our nursery class through sixth grade all of our students participate in monthly assemblies. These assemblies give all students an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and building blocks of the Performing Arts curriculum through song, instruments, poetry and dance. It is an opportunity to share this knowledge and understanding with others through presentation. The ability of our first and fourth grade students to deliver oral text is also highlighted in annual oratories with their grade level. All students in the elementary school, grades two through six perform in the annual spring play featuring the sixth grade class. Middle school students continue the Performing Arts program in a theatre elective as well as competing in local and state debate and speech competitions. All of these experiences combined provide our students with opportunities to master diction and elocution while developing confidence and poise.
