Dear Families,

Welcome to the Cushman Primary School -- a place where the faculty, staff and students’ identities are linked to excellence.  Providing young children with a personalized, developmental program is our expertise.  Cushman’s philosophy is founded in the understanding that each child has his or her own unique blend of intelligences and it is our task as educators to unlock individual potential. 

You are giving your child to us at a special and unique age.  You know that better than anyone!  They are ready for learning basic social and creative concepts.  Given that, the goal of our Primary School is to develop your child’s creative mind by allowing him or her to explore new concepts from different disciplines and then formulate new, innovative, constructive ways to play, interact and relate to others.  Students in our program develop the foundation of personal and joint responsibility,  a strong work ethic, respect for themselves and others, and courteous and empathetic behavior.  These, in turn, lead them to becoming  positive contributors to society who have a love for learning. 

Our multiage program for students through age five provides them with a safe place for discovery to build their social, emotional, physical and intellectual foundations.  In our warm, nurturing classrooms, our older children relate to and teach the younger ones.  Research shows that the highest level of understanding is demonstrated by teaching others.  For the younger children, they have peers that serve as models of natural instruction as they learn how to communicate, play and learn.  The first grade students are placed in single-age classrooms  where they move from the learning to read phase to the reading to learn phase.  In the kindergarten and first grade  classrooms, we use Smartboard and iMac technology to enhance students’ learning experiences and enable students to progress at their own rates.

We have highly skilled faculty and staff who are national and state educational conference presenters. They facilitate students’ learning by engaging them in meaningful activities where they will experience the outcome of their choices.  Whether they are working on academic math or reading skills through the Singapore Math Program and Open Court, building pre-engineering skills through constructions, acquiring oral or written language skills, painting and engaging in artistic endeavors, Cushman Primary students develop holistically.  And, in preparation for an ever-changing world, we set the foundation needed for students to think and respond critically, responsibly, and creatively with confidence and poise.  We strive to develop students who are responsible, caring young people  who can make positive choices for their own lives and contribute to making their homes, schools, communities and world a better place.
