Welcome to The Cushman School, Miami-Dade’s oldest continuously operating private school. Established in 1924, Cushman has become widely recognized as an accomplished educational institution that offers a challenging and progressive academic environment for an international student body in preschool through high school. Nestled in the heart of Miami’s Upper Eastside, the 96-year-old school continues to enliven its mission through its historic philosophy in which character development comes first. With almost a century of consistency of practice and application, the dispositions of courtesy and empathy, personal and joint accountability as well as industry and perseverance become integral parts of Cushman students’ way of thinking and behavior.
The Cushman School prioritizes performing and visual arts, movement and athletics, and integrative learning in which the fusion of technology and design drive exceptional outcomes into its innovative curriculum. The logic behind this programming is now grounded in brain research and educational theory. This, in combination with developing poised students who have a positive approach to life, strong oral and written communication skills and the disposition to think outwardly toward others, lead Cushman students to be recognized as leaders who are Innovators of Change and problem solvers who achieve success in both their professional and personal lives.
The Cushman School is accredited by the Southern Association of Independent Schools, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Florida Council of Independent Schools, AdvancEd, the Florida Kindergarten Council, and is a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Cushman holds memberships in the National Association of Independent Schools (Cushman was the only elementary school in South Florida to be granted membership in N.A.I.S.), the Southern Association of Independent Schools, the National Association of Education of Young Children, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Council of Teachers of English, the National Council of Teachers in Mathematics, the National Council of Teachers of Science, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, the Council for Religion in Schools, and the School Scholarship Service.
